Increase Your Energy Performance Score with Utility Incentives

Achieving LEED EB O&M certification is the beginning of a process to ensure buildings are continuously comfortable, efficient, and well-tuned.  This session addresses the operational measures, or energy efficiency opportunities, to maintain comfort and maximum efficiency as part of LEED-EB certification. Integration of Optimize Energy Performance LEED-EB credits with utility energy incentive programs will drive a strong business proposition to building owners and managers. Ensure a smooth transition from LEED certification to a successful hand-off to the operations team with this knowledge.
Speakers: Brock Auerbach-Lynn, 360 Energy Group; Jay Amundson, Nextant; Chris McCabe, Nexant

Resources for Healthy Learning Environments:  IPM and Green Cleaning

Research has demonstrated that healthy learning environments contribute to academic performance. The LEED v4 O+M rating system includes up to 6 points for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Green Cleaning. This session will focus on Integrated Pest Management and green cleaning in schools in order to minimize any exposures among students and staff. Participants will learn the importance of environmental health in schools and become acquainted with U.S. EPA’s school siting guidelines. Participants will learn the key features of a school IPM program, based on a case study at a local school, and on the principles in “Pest Prevention by Design,” recently published by the San Francisco Department of the Environment. Participants will also learn about the range of options for green cleaning in schools, including the use of ingredients with the “Design for the Environment” (DfE) label.
Presenter: Seth Dibblee, U.S. EPA

Nation's 1st LEED Silver Certified Combination College Dormitory & Recreation Center - Case Study & Building Tour

North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, a LEED Silver-certified building, is the nation’s first combined residence hall/recreation center on a college campus. The college was in need of both a residence hall for housing the growing student population and a new track and field stadium. However, because of the very tight campus site and costs of constructing two buildings, the college was not in a position to go forward with their building plans, until the concept of placing one building inside the other was presented. The time required to construct was significantly reduced by utilizing precast wall and floor panels, in addition to precast stairs, landings, beams and columns. The 200,000+ square foot complex took less than 10 months to be erected and the total project was finished in approximately one year. Key features include total precast components with unique double-finish, massive geothermal & radiant heating systems, hybrid underground storm water tanks and extensive use of recycled materials. Construction costs and actual in-service operational costs will be shared. Join us for a presentation and tour of the North Central College project. Read more about the project here.
Presenter: Brian Bock, Dukane Precast Inc.
