Join the USGBC-Illinois Chapter's Chicago Branch for Energy Efficiency Policy 101: Investing in Illinois' Energy Future on March 14, 2013.

In the last 5 years, Illinois has adopted some of the most advanced energy efficiency laws in the nation.  And, they’re not all building energy codes!  So, what are they?  How do they affect the energy efficiency of our buildings?  What are their benefits?  And, how can USGBC members make their voice heard and effect future laws?

During this educational session, we will describe the energy efficiency requirements that apply to our electric and natural gas utilities and how to take advantage of these requirements to improve the energy efficiency of existing and new buildings.  Anne McKibbin, Policy Director at CNT Energy, will also discuss utility energy efficiency policy, and the process for creating and updating building energy codes in Illinois and examples of local laws that encourage energy efficiency.

This non-partisan educational program will introduce members to the substance of existing Illinois laws that affect the energy efficiency of our buildings, as well as the process by which those laws are made and updated.  The session will conclude with information on how audience members can express their own opinions to policymakers.

We will also hear policy updates from MEEA (Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.)
