Join the U.S. Green Building Council - Illinois Chapter's Rockford/Northern Illinois Branch for Innovation in Green School Design, Development and Operation.

Tapping into the knowledge of three of Illinois' strongest green schools advocates, Innovation in Green Schools Design, Development and Operation leads professionals through the real opportunities and consequences associated with developing new and rehabilitating existing schools to meet modern best practices. Follow the presenters through case studies, real world experience, and startling data about the state of the industry and the imperative associated with meeting the challenge of getting every child into a green school within a generation. The panel brings a combined over 75 years of experience working with schools, and frames the conversation in practical language that everyone from a student to an administrator can understand.

The presentation starts with the opportunities associated with operating green schools, walking participants through the challenges and how best to overcome them – including real-world examples. The second phase looks at the state of the art in cost-effective green building design using case studies that highlight how teams overcame technical, financial and political hurdles to set a high bar for school design that meets programmatic and environmental goals. Lastly, the program looks to the near and long-term future, analyzing the impacts of current innovative school designs, the major technological challenges that lie ahead, and opportunities to leverage those challenges into developmental opportunities for districts and students alike. The session requires interactive participation from those attending so that everyone leaves seeking opportunities to make immediate improvements in our schools.
