This in-depth panel discussion will address the opportunities and challenges regarding the deconstruction of unwanted residential buildings. Deconstruction and building material reuse will be addressed from multiple perspectives and will include considerations ranging from creating business and community partnerships to the details of deconstructing a residential building.

The development of the Rebuilding Exchange, a building material reuse center in Chicago, will be highlighted as a model for creating a successful enterprise based on deconstruction, material reuse and the development of green-collar jobs. The program will allow for participants to learn from industry experts about available resources and tested strategies used to divert valuable building material resources from the landfill, to preserve and reuse a small part of our architectural heritage, and to build community and the local economy in the process.
