Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter and MCHC for a case study and tour of Rush University Medical Center's green campus project!

Rush University Medical Center is undergoing a major transformation of its urban Chicago campus, building an new medical office building, hospital, central plant, and parking garage. Two other buildings will undergo substantial renovations and several older buildings will be replaced. The City of Chicago designated Rush as its first Green Campus. All projects are participating in the city's Green Permit program. and therefore are registered for LEED certification. The medical office building has already achieved LEED Gold. The streetscape, central plant, and garage are completed and although not LEED certified have notable green features.

This session will focus on process of implementing a successful campus scale green project in the City of Chicago, and the impact of that process on the operations of a large institution. Speakers include the Rush University Medical Center's green team leader for operations, LEED Facilitator from the architect and LEED manager for the construction. We will address lessons learned from managing multiple stakeholders and emphasize green strategies particular to the Chicago region.

Some discussion highlights will be the RUMC recycling, waste reduction, green cleaning programs, and green education; the City of Chicago Green Permit process; managing multiple LEED projects on the same campus simultaneously; integrative design process, water conservation strategies, energy-efficiency strategies, innovative lighting, funding efforts, and construction process.

This session will begin with a case study lecture with ample time for questions followed by a walking tour of the campus projects and interior tour of the MOB and hospital.
