Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter's Chicago Branch and Residential Green Building Committee for a program on green landscape and maintenance considerations for your home!

This program will help contractors, designers, homeowners, residential developers, and landscape professionals all gain a better understanding of planning a green landscape in a residential setting. We'll begin by discussing the environmental case for implementing a sustainable landscape. The LEED for Homes rating system will be discussed as it relates to sustainable landscapes. Specific green landscaping strategies will be introduced and their function demonstrated as part of a case study of the 168 W. Elm Street project.  The project owner will be on hand to discuss the economics of a green landscape and maintenance considerations. The program will conclude by illustrating the range of aesthetic possibilities in sustainable landscapes with a variety of project budgets.

By the end of this program, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify how sustainable landscapes can positively affect their communities and watersheds.
  • Differentiate between and define types of sustainable landscape strategies.
  • Define how sustainable landscape projects are similar and dissimilar to traditional landscape projects.
  • Explore the range of aesthetic possibilities that are possible using sustainable strategies.
  • Identify the different types of maintenance required in a sustainable landscape.
