Please join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter, Rockford/Northern Illinois Branch for a Case Study and Building Tour of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentice and Training Center, Rockford Campus.
The evening will start with 30 minutes of Networking, including refreshments & Appetizers. On display during the networking will be a full scale building exhibit used by the Training faculty to educate apprentices and carpenters in our area about construction weatherization techniques, as well as local carpenters to answer questions pertaining to best practices and strategies taught by the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters.

Subsequently, there will be a presentation on Materials and Resources (MR) LEED credits: MR Prerequisite 1: Storage and Collection of Recyclables & MR Credit 2.1 & 2.2 Construction Waste Management: Divert 75% from disposal, including a brief explanation from Fridh Construction on how the contractor disposed of the waste during the construction of the Center.

Following Waste Management’s presentation will be our Keynote Speaker Bruce Obora, Project Architect for the CRCC Apprentice and Training Center and owner of Obora Phillips & Associates in Chicago, IL. Mr. Obora will demonstrate how the LEED checklist facilitates in the design and construction of the building while focusing on credits significant to the Center seeking LEED Silver Certification.

To cap the evening off, there will be a guided tour by the contractor (Fridh Construction), architect, and local carpenters.

Thanks to Jim Emerson of the CRCC Rockford Campus for helping plan for the event and Thanks to CRCC for welcoming us into their Building for the evening.

“The funny thing about throwing something away is that there is no ‘away.’ And where is a significant portion of all this garbage coming from? The construction and demolition of buildings account for about 40% of total waste in the United States (USGBC LEED Green Associate Study Guide).”
