Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter's Fox Valley Branch and Residential Green Building Committee for a case study and tour of a green home in Batavia!

The Blunks contacted Marko Spiegel in early January 2007 intriqued by the One-Watt/Passive Design concept, and never looked back.  Spiegel used the concepts of compact design, optimal utilization of space and prioritization of energy efficiency.  Spiegel and his team provided the energy concept, simulation, execution support and final energy audit for this project.  The best and least expensive way to live “green” starts with using less energy.  Saving energy is extremely economical when compared to other ecological conservation measures.

The Blunk Residence was designed to reduce overall energy demand by 60 to 80% compared to a typical Midwestern home.  The Blunks have achieved an impressive HERS Rating of 42, and the home can be heated with about one watt per square foot on the coldest day of the year, even in our harsh Chicago climate.  This form of design takes a holistic process and integrates custom architectural design and engineering to create an energy efficient residence.   The homes design captures the owner's individual style and preferences, while ensuring the house optimizes energy efficiency targets and total life cycle building performance. This design pays close attention to the consumption of natural resources, such as water and energy, during the actual building of the house.

Join us at Interiors for Business for a presentation by Marko Spiegel, President and Founder of Conservation Technology International, Inc. and Onewattconstruction LLC, and Eric Barton of Biltmore Insulated Concrete. Then follow us to the Blunk Residence for a tour of the home!
