Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter's Fox Valley Branch and IIDA Illinois for an education program on materials selection and indoor air quality.

Continuing Education: This program is approved for 1.0 AIA HSW/SD, IDEC and GBCI CE hours.

This program provides an introduction to NSF 140 and the role it plays in the commercial carpet industry in determining sustainable carpets. Participants will practice calculating building material value for carpet and determining if a carpet is eligible for an Innovation in Design Credit for a LEED project. Participants will leave with an understanding of the economic, environmental,
and social benefits of selecting NSF 140 carpets for their projects. The program offers an understanding of the future multi attribute certifications construction industry and an understanding of the role NSF 140 certified carpet can play in promoting sustainable design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the basics of NSF/ANSI 140 – 2007e (Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard), including the role of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the benefit to LEED® and NSF 140’s eligibility for the Innovation in Design Credit for LEED.
  • Assess how NSF 140 was created and how what role ANSI plays
  • Identify the achievement levels for NSF 140 certified commercial carpet and the evaluation criteria for NSF 140
  • Explore how NSF 140 fits with LEED requirements
  • Calculate building material value for commercial carpet using the Innovation in Design credit for NSF 140
